Snæfellsnes
Snæfellsnes Peninsula is located on the west side of Iceland and offers many recreational activities. The entire peninsula was awarded the Green Globe 21 certification on June 8, 2008. Iceland is proud to be the first European Country to receive this accreditation, but until now only three other areas in world have been accredited.
This trip is ideal for those who enjoy shorter nature walks. We will walk along the huge stone structure called Bárður Snæfellsás, who was a shaman/Viking who sensed the energy of the Snæfellsjökull glacier.
We continue to the beautiful beach at Djúpalónssandur, where we take a short walk. On the way we pass Gatklettur, an interestingly shaped cliff. In this area there are many signs of ancient eruptions with various lava formations and craters. Snæfellsjökull glacier is a dormant volcano.
